European Union debates Israel sanctions, leaving final decision to states. President von der Leyen spoke at opening of Ireland’s rotating presidency meeting.

She emphasized that many initiatives on Israeli sanctions have been undertaken recently.

Brussels clarified, joint stance has not yet emerged within the EU Council. Sanctions require all member states’ approval and economic measures must be agreed collectively.
