Air Pollution Linked to One-Tenth of Deaths in Belgium, Says Institute

Belgium faces increased deaths as air pollution claims thousands every single year. Sciensano reports nearly nine thousand seven hundred deaths caused by pollution during twenty twenty-two.

Air pollution deaths represent about nine percent of Belgium’s annual mortality statistics.

Fine particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone contribute significantly to nationwide premature deaths. Tobacco and high body mass index closely rival pollution as lethal health risks.

Elderly and middle-aged men are especially vulnerable to these rising health threats. Brussels and Walloon regions are harder hit than Flanders, highlighting stark regional differences.
