Turkish citizens’ German citizenship numbers soared dramatically in recent reporting year. Destatis data show over three hundred thirty-two thousand foreigners gained citizenship last year.

Since two thousand, first time annual citizenship count surpassed three hundred thousand individuals.

Syrians led recipients, followed by Turks and Russians obtaining German citizenship rights. Transition rate from Turkish to German citizenship rose by over fifty percent.

Bosnian, American, and Albanian recipients also experienced significant increases during same period. New citizenship law simplified process, allowing dual citizenship and shortened required residence period.
