Nearly half of European Union’s electricity came from renewables this year. The first quarter saw a notable rise in renewable electricity production share.

Wind energy formed the largest portion, followed by hydropower and solar sources.

Combustible renewables and geothermal sources contributed smaller but still meaningful electricity percentages. Denmark recorded the highest renewable electricity share, significantly outpacing other countries’ figures.

Portugal and Lithuania followed Denmark, while Czechia, Malta and Slovakia lagged behind. Experts emphasize that calculation methods influence renewable energy statistics across member states variably.
