European Union bans companies from destroying unsold clothes and footwear completely. Brands previously incinerated large stocks that never left warehouses or shelves.
According to officials, around nine percent of unsold textiles faced destruction yearly.
Now, those products must be resold or donated to various approved organizations. Unwanted items unreclaimed by charities after a period may eventually be destroyed.
Consumers can expect more discounted items in outlets and secondhand retail channels. Fashion companies fear increased expenses from logistics, storage, and paperwork requirements overall.
