Belgium Changes License Plate Fee System: Payments Required Upon Ordering

Belgium introduces instant payment for license plates; fees now due during ordering. Government revises process; car owners will pay fees before receiving plates officially.

Cabinet approved the new system last week, announced by the Transport Ministry.

Speos won five-year contract to manage production and delivery of license plates. Production period may be extended for another year for market stability reasons.

This change ends the concession system first introduced in two thousand ten. Minister says new model will improve service, security, and public financial efficiency.
