Germany’s public budget deficit has sharply increased during the first half-year. Federal, state, local governments plus social funds contribute to growing financial shortfall.

Statistics show the deficit rose significantly compared to the previous year’s first half.

Revenue increased modestly, but expenditure grew rapidly, worsening the overall financial balance. Federal government recorded highest deficit, mostly because spending surged and revenue decreased.

Social security remained stable, thanks to rising contributions and federal government credit support. Higher inflation and defense investments are expected to keep Germany’s budget deficit elevated.
