Germany Enacts Mandatory Repair Law for Electronic Device Manufacturers

Germany enforces new law requiring electronics manufacturers to offer mandatory device repairs. Manufacturers must provide affordable repairs and spare parts throughout device expected usage period.

Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig introduced legislation, effective from thirty-first July twenty-twenty-six.

Spare parts availability minimum is ten years for washing machines, seven for smartphones. Manufacturers must ensure devices can actually be repaired, not prevented by design.

Repair services must be available freely or for reasonable fees; information sharing mandatory. Law aims to reduce replacements, empower consumers, and affects all European Union countries.
