Belgium supermarket Sunday sales increased significantly compared to last year’s figures. Growth supported by a surge in consumer shopping for essential household items weekly.

Data shows market share for Sundays rose notably, reaching almost six percent recently.

Major retail chains benefited, while small independent stores experienced Sunday income declines overall. Average shopping basket on Sundays reached percentage eighty of weekly spending this year.

Experts say overall consumption did not noticeably increase despite Sunday shopping shift. Most supermarket chains remain open Sundays or intend to offer Sunday opening soon.
